A guided tour of rock carvings in the flashlight glow is an extraordinary experience. At night in the trail of the light the carvings raise out of stone and clearer and more detailed than in the day.
Experience an old-fashioned harvest feast and help to preserve Vitlycke Meadow! We work together and show how a scythe should be used for best results.
A meadow can accommodate 40-50 species of flowers and grass per square meter. Today, only small bits of all the fields remain that once were important because they gave winter fodder for the animals.
The exhibition “Rock art tattoos” aims to highlight tattoos inspired by rock art around the World. The content in the exhibition is produced in its entirety by people kind enough to share their tattoos and stories with us.
Årsjögård is open as a "living Viking farm" during two weeks (w. 28-29). Wednesdays-Sundays from 11.00 to 16.00. There will be lots of things happening every day; crafts, games, storytelling, food and much more!
We end the two weeks with a small market at the farm on 22 & 23 July. Viking craftspeople will visit the farm and sell their goods, such as jewellery, pottery and ribbons.
In 2009, the Värmlands Vikingacenter, a centre entirely devoted to the history of the Vikings, opened to visitors at Värmland, on the northern shore of lake Vänern, in southwest Sweden.
Extensive meadowland next to the river, which flows into the Harefjorden, reproduces a Viking Age environment where, during the summer months, demonstrations of handcraft techniques are performed and theme-based markets take place. A modern structure houses an exhibition that is well-known to enthusiasts: it consists mainly of scale reproductions of daily activities performed in a Viking port. These were previously displayed at the Jorvik Viking Center in York (England - UK), and acquired with the help of local associations.
Vitlycke Museum is an experiential and educative centre for the World Heritage Site at Tanum. We aim to enlighten the public by explaining the Bronze Age and the World Heritage Site and to increase the awareness and interest about this period, its locational context and our rock carvings. This is carried out by way of our pedagogic and public activities aimed at schools, groups of visitors and individuals through our exhibitions, the reconstructed Bronze Age settlement and by inviting the public to visit the rock carvings.
