EXARC Publications

A new publicity folder

EXARC made a new publicity folder and printed 2,000 copies. It is described what EXARC is, including its recent ICOM affiliation. It explains the network EXARC forms of professionals in archaeological open-air museums and in experimental archaeology. Several offers are brought to attention like becoming a member and subscribing to our journal...

EuroREA 7

The last “thick” issue EXARC published under the name EuroREA saw the light in late spring 2010. Themes were very wide spread: canons and glass beads, tourism and archaeological evidence. The history of experimental archaeology also covered some interesting pages and experimental archaeology as a way towards new perspectives to archaeological open-air museums got well deserved attention...

EuroREA 6

“Can we get it right” is one of the questions answered in EuroREA 6. It was not easy to get the 1,000 books into our storage site in the Netherlands (see photo). We had recently before decided to change the annual publication date from autumn to spring which had meant hard work for the editors...

EuroREA 5

Autumn 2005, we have published our fifth journal, with support of the EU project liveARCH. It holds among others an article on medieval walls and roofs, linking experimental archaeology and living history in the heritage industry and few articles about the Lofotr Viking Musuem (NO). The Belgian archaeologist Léonce Demarez is remembered and the Algaba de Ronda project in Spain is presented...

First flyer of EXARC

In the beginning of January EXARC developed a flyer and sent it to its members. It contains information about the association, the journal EuroREA and this website. EXARC members can order extra copies. Also over 200 archaeological open-air museums across Europe were contacted asking them to consider membership. Together with the letter a questionnaire was sent to collect data about the museums and their recent development...

3rd generation website

After 4 years, it was decided to prepare a new website. Not only did the graphic design need work: it was felt important to profile EXARC better: some of the content pages were already managed elsewhere and the EXARC website served as a portal. It was decided that the website should first and foremost inform about the association and its members, and on the second place be a starting point...

EuroREA 4

2007, EuroREA was transferred from SEA into the hands of EXARC. SEA was still a willing advisor, but EuroREA became the journal of EXARC, where the board had full responsibility, in this case delegated to the editor in chief. In September 2007, EuroREA 4/2007 was published; a bit thinner than in 2006 and progressively popular in content, without losing the high quality in editing and graphic design...

EuroREA 3

In Autumn 2006, EuroREA 3/2006 was published: a glossy magazine counting 100 pages. This 3rd volume was published with a circulation of 1,000 pieces and was a goodbye present of SEA: from this moment on, EuroREA is in the hands of EXARC itself. This was also first issue of EuroREA published on A4 size, we hope that this new format will be more satisfying...

EuroREA 2

The cooperation with EXARC Member SEA from the Czech Republic has resulted in the second volume of our journal EuroREA. It is a bit thinner than the previous one (160 pages, pocket size) and has interesting articles on for example wood tar production and something seemingly as simple as baking bread. The discussion section is about how to publish experimental archaeology.
