Open Monument Day: Beauty & Power: Saalburg in the days of Emperor Wilhelm II

Event date:
Sunday, 10 September, 2017
Kind of Event:
for Public

In ancient times the Saalburg was a stone manifestation of the Roman sphere of power as a border fortification. During the rebuilding of the site around 1900, the demand for power played an important role: Emperor Wilhelm II represented himself in the tradition of the Roman emperors, which is clearly expressed in the architecture of the fort. To the day of the open monument, the Saalburg focuses on the early days of the traditional archaeological museum.

Visitors will be able to meet the people from this period and representatives from society, culture and the military. In addition, an exhibition area is shown, which presents the collection in the style of the turn of the century around 1900, the so-called Musaion.
