I am a PhD student at the University of Exeter, specialising in prehistoric skin processing technologies and hold a Master’s Degree in Experimental Archeology from the same institution. I am originally from the western USA, and began practicing traditional living skills as a child. Having the Rocky Mountains as my back yard certainly helped encourage my interests! My main area of research has been in organic materials and their use, and the majority of my experience/expertise pertains to the prehistoric. Specific lines of experimentation include use wear analysis of bone tools and microscopic analysis of prehistoric processed skin items. In addition to my academic pursuits, I have demonstrated traditional living skills in both North America and Europe to groups ranging in age from young children to adults, and have taught single skill (such as tanning) or multi-skill (survival living weekend) courses for groups or individuals.
