Retired archaeologist (Neolithic, Roman etc.), now specialised in archaeometallurgy. Publications on Roman crucibles, recystallisation of non-ferrous metals, history of ancient steel production, current but traditional technologies of bronze processing and bronze and silver casting in Nepal and Niger, use of abrasives in ancient metal processing. Currently working on a monograph on the development and technology of crucibles from the Ancient Near East to the beginning of industralisation.
