My interest in textiles from archaeological contexts particularly footwear and basketry has developed through taking archaeology courses while also being a weaver, spinner, and basketmaker. Techniques for weaving footwear from plant remains have been explored, following designs from archaeological examples. Academically I am a palaeopathologist and bioarchaeologist working on human skeletal remains from Near East, Canada, and northeast China. Through macro- and microexamination of teeth including tooth histology, the interactions between stress exposure, environment, and human behaviour are explored in past human populations.
