The (re)construction of the Viking houses at Haithabu is based on the results of over 100 years of research at this site. The conservation of organic material allows detailed conclusions about the looks of the houses back then.

The Saalburg Roman Fort Archaeological Park is an in situ reconstruction of a Roman Fort from the 2nd century AD. It is part of the decentralised county museum of the County of Hessen and a research institute. Since 2006 it has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper German-Raetian Limes.

The “Geschichtserlebnisraum Lübeck, Bauspielplatz Roter Hahn e.V.” started as an adventure playground in 1999. The aim is to use the site for open youth work (including non-historical activities), offering historical education. The focus is on the easy approach for children and adolescents to all of our activities.

At the Oldenburger Wallmuseum the visitors can discover three thematic parts: a typical Ostholstein tenant farm, the Slavonic period in the 10th century and the St. Johannis Toten- und Schützengilde from 1192.

Federsee is situated about 100 kilometres south of Stuttgart and 60 kilometres north of Lake Constance. This small lake is the remains of a large basin which slowly turned into land over the past 14,000 years. The peat area covers about 33 square kilometres. The village Bad Buchau has for a long while been a spa.

Near München archaeologists and volunteers constructed a house and several other structures.
Upper Bavaria 1400 years ago... How did people live at that time? What did their houses look like, their working tools and other items of everyday's life? What kind of clothes did they wear, how were fabrics woven, dyed and worked? What did they eat, how did they bake bread, conserve meat or brew mead?

During the 12th century AD Slavic tribes as well as incoming western settlers occupied the area of the modern city of Berlin. Towards the end of the 12th century, a small village was established some 20 km to the south-west of the early villages of Berlin and Cölln on the River Spree.

The “Stone Age Park Dithmarschen” in Albersdorf (Schleswig-Holstein, Germany) is being reconstructed as a Neolithic cultural landscape from ca. 3.000 BC. Lying close to megalithic tombs and grave mounds dating from the first farmers in Northern Germany, the site offers educational activities like flint knapping, archery and leatherwork.

The archaeological open-air museum at Unteruhldingen is situated at the Lake Constance in the very south of Germany. It dates back to as long ago as 1922 when the first two ‘Stone Age’ houses were constructed. All reconstructions since (22 so far) are based on lake dwelling excavations in and around the Alps dating to the Stone and Bronze Age.
