The big event of the summer, the Viking battle at Trelleborgen, will take place on July 3-5, 2020
The Viking age summer markets were full of life when dealing with large and small items - from the Norwegian quarry to Afghan carnelian beads. But trading places were also a concentration of values and therefore interesting for robbers. The king's men put an end to this - the merchants paid treasure to the king and the king's men made sure of the market and the free trade.
EXARC (www.exarc.net) and University of Trento (www.unitn.it) are pleased to announce the 1st call for papers for the 11th Experimental Archaeology Conference (#EAC11), which will be held in University of Trento, Italy, on the 2-4 May 2019.
The Slav Days are not just any medieval market: Every year in July, warriors, traders and craftsmen from all over Europe meet and revive the westernmost princely seat of the medieval Slavs in all its facets!
Looking for teams!
In the weekend of seven and eight July, Huis van Hilde and the Hoogoven Museum organize a public event close to Amsterdam (NL). In the context of 100 years of Tata Steel, iron furnaces will be made and used.
Ancient building techniques will be practiced by continuing the construction of a log house that was started in 2017. The main focus will be on the upper part of the walls and the roof. Additionally, logs will be barked, a doorway will be cut into the walls, and several doors will be built to the already existing buildings such as the smithy and the barn.
Tablet weaving is an ancient weaving technique, in which the rotation of tablets, applied in the warp, creating the shed where the weft passes, produce the weave. Historically, it was applied to produce accessories for garment, like belts, or as decoration in garments itself. In this workshop you will be able to produce your own tablets and create patterns.
