Early Middle Ages

From 10.5. until 26.5. in the history park the stone meeting of the journeymen (Wandergesellen) will take place. The stone meeting has been around for about 25 years and supports every year another social project or association.

From the 24th to the 26th of May 2019, for the first time a blacksmith's meeting takes place at the Federseemuseum Bad Buchau in Southern Germany, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year.

Baking in a clay oven

Look at the gardens and fields of that period, the old varieties of crops and fruit trees, learn about how they were used and their importance. You will learn about the ways food was obtained and processed, the way meals were prepared, the way different tools were used and the importance of dividing labour. You will see the world of special tastes of our ancestors.

Craftsmanship of our ancestors

Learn to make your own candles using beeswax from hives sited on the nearby Hook Peninsula. In this unhurried and story-filled workshop, discover the subtle qualities and remarkable health benefits of pure beeswax, and learn the techniques needed to make candles of your own.

Coffee, chocolate, potatoes, tomatoes... This widely known and widespread products appeared in our menu relatively recently. When it exactly happened? In what way? And what did people eat in the past, for example 1.000, 3.000 or 6.000 years ago? You will get answers for these important questions during our new event "Taste of the Past".

This is an opportunity to take time out to immerse yourself in nature for the weekend. You will be shown how to recognize the materials that can be used to create a unique basket. We will experiment with different techniques such as cordage, braiding and plying which will transform your materials ready for weaving into your creation.

This workshop will teach you to spin yarn from a sheep’s fleece, as well as dyeing yarn from plant material. Two dye pots will be simmering during the day so that two colours will be shimmering by the end of the course. While the dye-pots simmer, you will learn to sort, tease and spin a woolen yarn on a drop spindle.
