Viking Age

Participants will be shown the processes involved in producing hand-dipped tapered candles with 100% cotton wicks. These will be 16-19 cm long. They will take away a pair of pure beeswax candles hand-dipped in the medieval manner. They will be also advised on where to get the materials.

This two-day workshop is aimed at those who have done the one-day basket weaving course or who want to take on a more ambitious project.Plan your own project and make a basket with a handle/handles (eg: a shopping or small log basket). The class will also cover the growing, harvesting, storing and preparation of the willows for working.

Axe Club are running a unique and engaging course on the fast-growing sport of axe throwing with an Introduction to Axe Throwing Course. On this half-day course, learn the basics of this exciting and skilful sport.

This course will be repeated on 25th May, 22nd June, 20th July and 1st September 2019.

€40 per participant

Over the course of two days, participants will make their arrow shafts, heads and fletchings all made from techniques spanning from the stone-age and up, including the use of primitive glues. How to make a quiver, arm guard and finger tab will also be demonstrated during the course.

Relax and spend a day in the mindful experience of learning the traditional skills of Bodgers (skilled woodworkers who used green timber) under the guidance of master craftsman Tommy Kelly from Bevel Furniture / Bevel Woodworking School

During this two-day workshop, learn the basic techniques of carving in either the round or in relief. You will carve and take home your own unique sculpture.

Note: please bring a heavy jacket and strong work boots.

The festival's theme is trade and cultural exchange. The theme has been chosen on the basis that the Vikings had contacts across cultures and several of our objects in the exhibition refer precisely to this. We want to highlight trade and cultural exchange during the festival.

One weekend a year, trade travelers, craftsmen, Vikings and other visitors gather at Lödde å to shop, exchange news and socialize - just like 1000 years ago. At that time, Lödde was an important trading route and a crowded trading place annually attracted people from near and far. VikingaTider offers you a time travel back to Skåne's early history.

At VikingaTider we consider it one of our goals to spread the knowledge that not all Vikings were blood thirsty warriors and brigands, but rather that most of them were mere farmers and craftsmen. Once a year, we put all that aside, and focus on war and struggle!

We know that mythological creatures have found our Viking town, and restless spirits will again haunt us in this horrible evening. Do you dare come visit?
Like previous years you will be sent out in groups with a guide who will safely take you through the town. Gather by the museum entrance building.
