Autumn time is market time in Haithabu. Just like 1000 years ago, on the first weekend in November, dealers from near and far arrive in the former trading metropolis to sell their wares. The museum visitors are once again expecting an atmospheric trade fair experience, as the dealers are setting up their stalls in the exhibition rooms directly in front of the showcases with the original finds.
Life in Haithabu pulsates on the longest days of the year. Traders from almost all of the world known at the time hurried through the narrow streets between the thatched and straw-roofed houses, exchanged ideas with craftsmen and met on the jetties at the port. Goods are examined and haggled here until late in the evening.
Over the Easter days, the popular spring market will take place again at the Viking houses in Haithabu. Traders, craftsmen and market participants from Germany and the neighboring countries present their goods, allow you to look over their shoulders at their craft and give visitors a lively insight into the hustle and bustle in Haithabu 1,000 years ago.
