This weekend Archeon is all about textiles, leather and clothing. There are various special demonstrations and activities.

In prehistoric times we weave with vegetable fibers, such as nettle, flax and tree bark. In addition, wool is dyed and we spin and weave with wool. You can also learn how to sprang this weekend. This is the oldest known way of braiding.

Roman Week old

Various activities take place at Archeon during the Roman week from 25 April to 3 May. The Restauratiewerf can be visited where work is currently underway on the restoration of the Zwammerdam ships. A unique restoration where you can see for yourself how the ship to be restored is completed part by part, plank by plank.

This weekend you will experience what it is like to live in the Napoleonic era. A grand camp, the life back then with special demonstrations. Exercises are carried out, soldiers are paid out, troops are inspected and preparations are made for people to go home. There are also various shooting demonstrations with both muskets and cannons.

European Stone Age Gathering

For the first time, the European Stone Age Gathering will be organised at the Hunebedcentrum. The international festival takes place from July 27 to August 2. During this event, Stone Age enthusiasts from all over Europe come together to live in the Stone Age, to exchange knowledge and experience and to show their skills.

The “new Land” Flevoland in the Netherlands is not only home to many people, it also contains some splendid nature. In one of the nature parks, at Lelystad, a Stone Age settlement is situated. This area was home to Neolithic farmers before it got too wet and flooded.

The story of Swifterkamp begins with the meeting of some lecturers and someone from Staatsbosbeheer (the Dutch Forestry Commission) who all shared a great passion for archaeology. Their wish to create a Prehistoric settlement in Flevoland for educational purposes soon became reality...
