Life in Haithabu pulsates on the longest days of the year. Traders from almost all of the world known at the time hurried through the narrow streets between the thatched and straw-roofed houses, exchanged ideas with craftsmen and met on the jetties at the port. Goods are examined and haggled here until late in the evening. After dark, everyone returns to their ships or gathers around the hearths of the residents of Haithabu.
