The Cherokee Nation and the Oklahoma Historical Society are very excited to welcome you to the 2018 conference of the Association for Living History, Farm and Agricultural Museums. We have a long partnership working together on our common goal of preserving cultural heritage. The Cherokee people have overcome many challenges in the struggle to survive, preserve tradition, and forge a bright future. Forced to leave ancestral land behind in the southeastern United States, the Cherokee people overcame division and built a thriving economy and social life in Indian Territory. But it was all ripped away with the American Civil War and the individual allotment of land that followed. Despite these hardships, the Cherokee people have not only endured but prospered. We are happy to share Cherokee history and culture in Tahlequah, capital of the Cherokee Nation.
