This event is about celebrating the Auxiliary troops who formed an important part of the Roman Army. These were men who served in the Roman army and came from all parts of the Roman Empire.
They brought with them highly prized, specialist fighting techniques and weapons, as well as their own languages, religions, cultures and food. Originally, they were non-Roman citizens but received their citizenship after serving in the army for 25 years. They are some of the most interesting, diverse and least mentioned people within the Roman army.
'Auxilia' is about bringing the stories and history of these highly skilled warriors to light and celebrating the cultural diversity they brought with them into Britannia.
