This weeklong workshop for university-level archaeology students will utilize the ideal setting of the Neolithic-Chalcolithic Aktopraklık site in Turkey. Bolstered by on-site reconstructions of prehistoric architecture, participants will have the unparalleled opportunity to do experimental archaeology in the same manner and setting as Aktopraklık’s ancient inhabitants. Students will gain hands-on experience and training from experts in such ancient techniques as pottery making, flint knapping, metallurgy, and textile dying. In addition, lectures and practical demonstrations will explore such topics as paleobotany, archaeozoology, archaeological drawing and photography, GIS, excavation techniques, and museum studies. Housing and food provided. Participants are responsible only for transportation costs.
