On Sunday 21 August, HEMA, Historical European Martial Arts, is organizing a long sword tournament for its novice members in the preHistorisch Dorp. Throughout the day, warriors cross swords in modern clothing.
Fighting is based on techniques from the 14th and 15th centuries. Fighting masters of this time wrote down their techniques and made illustrations to accompany them. Based on these writings, warriors from various sword fighting associations from the Netherlands still perform this beautiful art today.
The 1-on-1 battles are carried out in modern and protective clothing, but with historical weapons and techniques. Feel free to come and have a look if you are curious about the fighting techniques from the Middle Ages or if you want to gain inspiration for a new sport. The tournament is led by members of the organizations for Historical European Martial Arts in the Netherlands.
