Diet and Crops of the Early Middle Ages
The time of plenty in the Middle Ages began with the harvest season: the gardens were well stocked, the grain was gathered from the fields and the fruit of the trees was soon sweet and ripe.
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. it's all about feeding the ancient Slavs and Vikings straight from the field. The "People of Starigard" show visitors in the reconstructed Slavic settlements and at the princely court how the Slavs knew how to produce food and everyday objects from grain and straw 1000 years ago.
Not just watching, but also participating is the motto for the visitors! - In addition to a variety of other actions, you can try medieval porridge or beer, thresh grain and grind flour in stone mills or bind straw dolls. Baking flatbread is also particularly popular.
If you like, you can also learn archery from the hunter beforehand. A successful hunt secures the meat side dish later when baking.
