Have you always wanted to know more about the unique shipwreck of a 'ventjager', which can be seen in the museum at Batavialand? In that case the Ships Weekends are the perfect time to drop by! To be precise, on November 27-28, 2021. During this weekend, this more than 300-year-old fish transport ship from Flevoland soil is in the spotlight.
In 1986, the 14-metre wreck at Swifterbant was excavated and completely salvaged, as were the many finds found within it. Because it ended up obliquely in the bottom, the starboard side has largely perished, which gives an exceptional view of how the ship is put together inside.
What is there to do?
Discover what it was like to stay on board such a fish transport ship on the Zuiderzee in the past. Step onto the active floor for a special memory game and join the fish trade game, the fish are hidden all over Batavialand!
Would you like to know more about the background of the ship? See the wreck with the curator and listen to a talk about the ship. These will be held hourly between 11am and 4pm. Or watch our videos from the depot, for even more special archaeological finds from the wreck that are normally not on display in the museum.
In addition, there will be a special lecture about the Ventjager by Frank Dallmeijer at 3:00 PM.
