Rings — iconic ancient treasures we still wear today! Join us at the farm for a full-day introduction to silversmithing under the expert tutelage of historical metalworker and replica maker Neil Burridge, and learn all the skills you need to begin your journey into the delicate and ancient art of silversmithing.

On this day course, you’ll craft two beautiful rings out of silver, each based on ancient designs found in burial sites as early as the Bronze Age: the iconic Celtic spiral, and the classic silver band. You’ll learn to work with silver wire and strip, to anneal and shape metal, and to recreate an ancient design of your choice using punches or engraving. You’ll also learn more about the origins of these designs, and the methods, techniques, and styles of ancient jewellery making.

Why not come back the next day to deepen your skills and complete the course by making a Celtic wrist torc? Use code ARIANROD, the silver wheel of fate, to get 10% off when you book both workshops!

The torc is over 3,000 years old, and is still one of the most iconic pieces of ancient jewellery. The ultimate status symbol, torcs were once worn by chieftains and nobles, and they’ve been found in several of Britain’s most incredible treasure hoard discoveries. On this workshop, you’ll not only learn more about the history of this classic piece of art, but also create one of your very own.

With the guidance of expert historical metalworker and replica maker Neil Burridge, you’ll build on the basic techniques of annealing and shaping — learnt in the Celtic Rings workshop if you attend both — and develop your skills with more complex silversmithing techniques including twisting and soldering metal. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have crafted a stunning wrist torc out of sterling silver, based on the design of ancient artefacts found in British treasuries and beyond.

You don’t need to have any experience to enjoy this workshop, but if you’d like to master the basics before applying them on your torc, why not come for both days of the course and make a pair of Celtic rings as well? Use code ARIANROD, the silver wheel of fate, for 10% off when you book both workshops!
