At regular intervals, the Galli campus offers the opportunity to gain an insight into the old tradition of the dyer's trade and to learn a lot of interesting facts about the use of medieval dyeing methods.

Our honorary dyer Roswitha Schweichel deals with typical dyeing plants such as woad, wow, madder, dyer's chamomile, etc., which were already cultivated for this purpose in the Middle Ages and some of which are also grown on campus. We collect other plants, such as goldenrod, tansy, birch leaves, etc. on the site.

We dye on an open fire, document the dyeing process and examine the influence of different stains, the material of the respective dyeing vessel or the origin of the wool on the color result.
