The Vikings had a terrible reputation in the early Middle Ages. After they plundered the monastery at Lindisfarne in England (793 AD), the infamous Drakars were suddenly everywhere. They were also identified in the area that would later become the Netherlands. At Wijk bij Duurstede a rich harbor was established that was called Dorestad.
The Roman citizens and soldiers from our settlement Trajectvm ad Rhenvm have put together a Roman program. During the Romans week there are many extra activities at the park. The Easter weekend in Zutphen (NL): the stage of an early medieval Easter Market with Franks, Frisians and Vikings. Last year this was a great success, especially because of the living history people joining! Erve Eme received 1,200 visitors back then.
The grand Viking Market with early medieval tradespeople, historical music, old crafts and of course fights and weapon demonstrations. And all this at the spot where the historic epic movie Redbad was filmed!
