At the end of July and beginning of August, visitors can watch 13 archaeologists immerse themselves in the world for 2,700 years and live and work in the Celtic village. In Hallstatt clothing, they design their everyday life and demonstrate old craft techniques. Visitors' questions are always welcome.,
On the individual days different handicraft techniques are in the center:
On Sunday, May 8th, in the Celtic village of Mitterkirchen, the subject of bows and arrows will be addressed again, together with various other long-distance weapons from prehistory and beyond into the 16th century.
Immediately after the Archaeotechnical Days, Wolfgang Winkler offers the visitors of the Celtic village the opportunity to work in the open-air museum. In the arrow construction workshop arrows are made of different materials, which affects the flight characteristics of the arrows.
For a long time hunting was important for human nutrition, and one of the most important aids to doing so was bows and arrows. Interested parties can experience how to build such a weapon on 16 June in a 120-minute workshop (between 9:00 and 17:00) with bow making expert Wolfgang Winkler.
On the last Sunday in May, families in the Celtic village of Mitterkirchen are offered a special program: young and old visitors can try out pristine handcraft techniques of textile production on this afternoon (1:00 pm to 5:00 pm) free of charge. In addition to tablet weaving, we offer the production of yarn with spinning whorls.
Flamingo tongue, camel’s heel or fried dormice are widespread clichés of Roman cuisine. Liquamen, the spicy sauce made from fermented fish, has also long been falsely interpreted.
The MAMUZ castle Asparn / Zaya is dedicated this weekend to the Middle Ages. Guests of the MAMUZ have the opportunity to expand their knowledge of the Middle Ages in our region and at the same time immerse themselves in medieval crafts and stories.
