Since 2016, Sofia works on textile and clothing history research, recreating historical clothing, especially in the Iberian Peninsula and Europe, in experimental archaeology and living history, accepting costume commissions for reenactment or other events and making workshops about these subjects
I am a research assistant at the German Archaeological Institute. Currently I am writing my PhD on “Ancient Near Eastern Amulets“ at Freie Universität Berlin (DE). Since several years I am giving workshops on gruitbeer and mead production at Museumsdorf Düppel.
The UTGARD Festival is the largest early medieval festival in Slovakia. About 900 reenactors from Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Russia, France, Lithuania, Romania, Bulgaria, Ireland and Chile are registering this year. The festival presents life, culture, history and military in the 9th-11th centuries in Great Moravia, Scandinavia, Poland and Kyiv Russia.
I am involved in community archaeological excavation projects as well as experimental archaeology mostly based on the early medieval period. I also organise living history courses in Viking Age metalwork techniques.
Due to the uncertain circumstances and evolving travel and gathering restrictions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic the conference will be held only online.
Conference fee
30 € for employed registrants
15 € for students and those working on scholarships

On the occasion of the opening of the exhibition "Horsebows: Archaeology. Reconstruction.
Free to attend. Fire always leaves its mark and a wealth of information behind. This conference aims to explore these events by bringing together ideas from across archaeological and anthropological sub-disciplines. Registration now extended until 31 March 2019.
