Evidence of belief and cult can be traced back to the earliest beginnings of human history. The worlds of thought and mostly complex cult practices of our ancestors have a great appeal to us, but they are difficult to understand or even reconstruct.
From an archaeological perspective, the question often arises as to which finds and findings actually have a religious and/or cultic connection. However, there are written and material remains from historical societies, as well as sometimes architectural evidence, that allow us an insight into the lived religion of bygone times.
