20,000 years ago herds of wild horses roamed the landscapes of Europe. They inspired people to paint caves, but were also hunted. It was only much later, in the Bronze Age, that horses were tamed and used as draft and riding animals. Today there are efforts to preserve the last wild horses. An afternoon for horse lovers with a wide range of activities.

Whether as food, medicine, material or mystical-religious use. But their presence tells us much more. They provide information about the condition of the soil, its use or climatic conditions.

Every child knows that the Easter Bunny does not lay the eggs himself. But who knows when and how humans came up with chickens? On Easter Monday you can learn more about the history of chicken breeding with us. 

Celebrate Father’s Day at the Crannog Centre with some extra special family activities

Join us to celebrate pancake day the prehistoric way!

The Crannog Kitchen will be cooking up a treat for Pancake day, using Iron Age flours and foraged ingredients to create prehistoric pancakes. You can also join in with hands on activities working with wool and clay, and see real 2500 year old objects from the Crannog People in the museum.

Have you always wanted to know what nature has to offer in terms of edibles? Then this is your chance! In 2022 the
Hunebedcentrum organizes our foraging workshops, together with experienced instructors Leah & Tim of 'In het Wilde Weg'. Per season you will be taken into nature and you will learn what there is to eat (and drink), both above and below ground.
