During the National Archeology Days everyone can participate in the organized activities. An excavation is organized especially for children, where they can search for pottery and Roman coins. You can then take these objects home with you to enjoy the day even more.
This one day course is a chance to try your hand at the craft of rush weaving in the inspirational setting of St Fagans National Museum of History. Working under the guidance of local craftswoman Clare Revera, you’ll learn the techniques required to make a rush table mat or two (or more if you're quick!).
The International Reenactment Market IRM is the first international fair for living history, re-enactment, and experimental archaeology of all periods in Germany, and was launched in 2011 in the Archaeological Park Roman Villa Borg. The new location for 2022 is the Römerwelt museum at Rheinbrohl, located between Bonn and Koblenz.
Discover the sound of our ancestors and craft one of humanity’s oldest instruments. Guided by craftsman, musician, and living history practitioner Lewis Beck, learn to use steam-bent birch wood and ethically-sourced goat hide to create a 16-inch frame drum and beater using ancient techniques. Running each day this weekend.
Join our Experimental Archaeologists on a behind the scenes tour of Butser Ancient Farm.
Journey between Stone Age and Anglo-Saxon periods via, Bronze Age and Iron Age roundhouses and our Roman Villa, as you learn about the evidence and techniques behind the construction of our experimental buildings, and what they can teach us about life in the ancient past.
Celebrate with the Crannog community the ancient festival of love, fertility, and hope for the future. See the blossoming of the hawthorn and broom on the shores of Loch Tay and feel connected to fresh, new life blooming around us. Sing and honour the site, Bridgit, and Mother Earth and make a wish on a ribbon and tie it to a tree.
From fleece to yarn, and onto Nalbinding, making textiles with one big needle.
Craft yourself a cosy cloak to keep out the weather and catch everyone’s eye with some striking prehistoric style jewellery, based on archaeological finds from northern Europe.
What do experts read from prehistoric animal images about the relationship between humans and animals? This is revealed by museum director Ulrich Eberli on a public evening tour of the special exhibition.
