Late Middle Ages

The Fonsado is the annual SIAH meeting where all attendees enjoy a long weekend of archery activities, workshops, conferences and archery fraternity.

The leitmotiv of the Fonsado 2024 organized by the Edetanos Company (Valencian Community) is “Sagitta Vitae, arrows for life”.

Again the Easter Bunny did hide a tremendous amount of Easter-Eggs within the grounds oft the open air-museum at Hitzacker (Elbe). If you can find one, you are welcome to take part in our tombola at 3 o’clock for big and small prices.

It's time to start the season! The first days of May are the time to return to life after the winter months. We invite you for a walk into the past. Performers will return to our reconstructions and talk about life in prehistory and the early Middle Ages.

With continuous heat of 1,000 °C, 2.2 tons of quicklime can be produced from approx. 3 tons of limestone, which is later processed with water and sand into plaster and mortar. 15 stere of firewood makes oven doors and limestone glow cherry red. 

Did people even have leisure time in the Middle Ages? Most people don't know it, but actually, they had MORE days off back then than we do today! In those days, people entertained themselves with games, sports, and play, many of which we still know today - although they were often a lot more violent than in our time.

Explore the artistry of spoon carving, and discover the timeless craft of shaping wooden utensils in this hands-on workshop. Led by artist and heritage craftsperson Mandie Molyneux, engage with creativity and craftsmanship to learn the intricate techniques of carving, shaping, and refining wooden spoons.

Craft course weekend including: Deer butchery and cooking, Medieval Illuminations and Calligraphy, Viking Cookery Course, Viking Tablet Weaving.

In this workshop you will learn all the skills and techniques needed to craft your own wooden spoons by hand, using just an axe & knife. 

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the “Living History” project, the open-air museum on Kiekeberg invites you to a conference on the topic of living history, building on a specialist conference 15 years ago in the open-air museum  that examined the status quo and perspectives at the time illuminated and questioned by living history formats.
