Archeology and the Public - Experience the Past?

Within the last two decades, a "scene" has developed across Europe which combines elements from archaeological engineering and historical representation to sophisticated archaeological reconstruction for a hobby or commercial activity. This heterogeneous scene is viewed with mixed feelings by archaeological experts.

There is hardly a weekend in Germany that does not have an event with an archaeological and / or historical coating - from the demonstration and reconstruction of old handicraft techniques and living environments, to the re-enactment of specific historical events and so-called medieval markets. But what do you have to do with these events and their actors? To what extent do such events really show reconstructive excerpts from the past based on the state of archaeological research?

The lecture traces these questions and finds appropriate answers.

The event takes place in compliance with current measures to contain the corona pandemic. Please bring your mouth and nose covering, which must be worn throughout the museum.

Time: 6.30 p.m.
