Numerous dwellings in Unst, one of the Shetlands, have proved a distinctive viking presence on the island. The Viking Unst project gave life to a longhouse and a viking ship.
Three different settlements were excavated and investigated through environmental analysis. The presence of vikings in Unst was thus confirmed and new information was collected. Throuhg this, the Shetland Amenity Trust realized the (re)construction of a typical longhouse, conveniently placed beside a previously acquired replica of the Gokstad boat.
The place is open during the summer for a festival and living history activities which give demonstrations of how vikings lived in the Shetlands.
