The RETOLD project is now almost 18 months active, and we have not met in person yet! The previous meeting at ASTRA in Rumania was postponed due to COVID-19 but in June we are going to UAB in Barcelona. During this first RETOLD meeting in person, we are going to introduce the project to a wider public of specialists and students. We are now in the phase where several aspects should be finalised, but comments and suggestions are still very welcome. The first 1.5 year of the project we were discussing and developing the ideas, which will be tested during the meeting at UAB. We hope to be able to move to the next stage after the summer of 2022. At UAB we are also going to elaborate on the importance of the RETOLD work to Archaeological Open-Air Museums, and how it can help in the future.
The European RETOLD Project is coordinated by EXARC, that aims with this project to connect the digital world to these important cultural places, both for research and professional purposes and for improving public access. This will ensure higher quality research through more comparable data, the preservation of tacit cultural heritage knowledge, and opportunities for more engaging and impactful story-telling about cultural heritage to the general public. The other RETOLD partners are Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona (SE), Complexul National Muzeal ASTRA (RO), Steinzeitpark Dithmarschen (DE), Nüwa Digital Media Content Production Studios Ltd (IE) and Museumsdorf Düppel (DE).
Note: We make part of the program available open access to wider public (on registration). Tuesday 7th of June from 09:00 to 13:00 we will have the opportunity to listen to experiences around digital archaeological heritage for professional, researchers and public access presented by Nicolò dell’Unto (Lund University, SE), Sofia Pescarin (CNR, IT), Héctor Orengo (ICAC, CAT - ES), Joan Anton Barceló and Oriol Vicente (UAB, CAT - ES). Wednesday 8th of June from 09:00 to 10:30 there will be a roundtable with the mentioned guests to discuss and confront perspectives on digital archaeological heritage. After the coffee-break, there will be a free visit to the UAB Open Labs.
