RSPB Arne invite you to join them for a fun Iron Age weekend. We have the brilliant team from the Ancient technology Centre with us giving people of all ages the chance take part in ancient and traditional crafts.
• We have a brand new Iron Age roundhouse that we need help ‘daubing’ (ancient wall-making) – mix your straw, mud and clay and get your hands dirty!
• Make your own rope or string from nature's garden
• Have a go at willow weaving
• Pole-lathing (ancient woodturning) demonstrations
• Listen to stories and myths from our storytellers
We also have two special guests:
- living historian & professional blacksmith Thomas Timbrell, from Big Beynon's Blacksmithing, who has brought his historic forge with him and will be forging Iron Age items all weekend.
- Iron Age crafts specialist Caroline Nicolay, from Pario Gallico, who will present how paints were made and used, and how YOU can make your own natural paints and brushes using ancient techniques! Everyone can have a go at painting and making colours that will be used later on to paint our roundhouse.
You also get full access to the rest of the reserve with adventure playground, café, shop, grill and the beautiful reserve.
Early bird Tickets can be purchased in advance from Eventbrite, or just turn up on the day. From £10 per adult. (RSPB members £10. Non members £12.50) and Children are FREE. Parking included in the ticket price.
