Course objective: Acquiring the necessary practical and theoretical basic knowledge to produce arrows in conformity with the rules for the archery category "historical bow" with wooden shaft and natural springs.

Course content: Arrow theory - which arrow fits my bow (considerations of arrow length and shaft thickness, the appropriate weight of the arrow tips and the total weight of the arrows and the optimal spine value), background knowledge about the purpose of feathering and types of feathering, which springs are suitable, such as long or how high the feathering should be, splitting the keel and shaping natural springs, making wooden shafts either from spruce wood or from various slings with self-nocks, straightening crooked shafts, basic knowledge of "tarring" and "barrels" of shafts, Various feathering methods and solid tip fastening, impregnation of the shafts.

Historical background: Bow and arrow have been used since time immemorial. While it was assumed not so long ago that the bow weapon had only been in use for 12,000 to 15,000 years, recent estimates based on findings in Africa have now been dated back to at least 65,000 years. In South Africa, for example, an arrowhead was found in a cave not far from Kwa Zulu Natal, which was dated to be 61,000 years old. The first arrowheads were carved from bones or antler poles or struck from obsidian or comparable stones; any stone that allows a shell-shaped tee is usable. With the onset of the Bronze Age in the 3rd millennium v. BC tips were cast from bronze. Bronze tips were used long into the Iron Age because casting was more efficient than forging. Since ancient times, arrow making has been a craft separate from bow making - the bow builders of antiquity and the Middle Ages never dealt with arrow making and vice versa. Making the perfect arrow requires as much specialist knowledge as building the perfect bow.
