Building a Vomitorium
For the 2023 European Archaeology Days, the Fabri Tignuarii are coming back to the Amphitheater of Saintes (Charentes-Maritimes, FR). We aim to reconstruct parts of a vomitorium, which is the vaulted access to the amphitheater. In only two days, we will delve into the problematics of worksites, from the origin of the rubble stone used in the walls, to the standardisation of work and the interconnection and communication between the workshops: construction managers, carpenters, stonemasons and lime slakers.
These demonstrations will be live and free to access, so don't hesitate to come and have a full experience of ancient construction and the amphitheater, with the help of archaeologists and the staff of heritage management in Saintes.
Come and meet us on the working site!
