This excursion to Nara is especially planned for participants of the ICOM General Conference in Kyoto, but anybody is welcome. Email us and we will tell you where at Kyoto Station we will meet. Nara is about 1 hour away.

Our first stop will be Heijo Palace. During most of the Nara Period (710-794), Nara served as the capital of Japan and was known as Heijo-kyo. The Heijō Palace (平城宮 Heijō-kyū) served as the site of the emperor's residence and government offices. More information: https://exarc.net/venues/heijo-palace-jp. Depending on how much time you have, it might be worthwhile to pop down to Asuka to see the Kitora Kofun Museum or maybe take a trip over to Todaiji or Nara park.

If you like to join this excursion, meet us on Friday BEFORE 9:00h am in the lobby of the Karasuma Kyoto Hotel. Use the Karasuma Subway Line, leave at the Shijo Station, take exit 6 and it is only 30 metres, at the Starbucks Sign.

We aim to be back, 18:00h, at thesame spot

It is recommended but not compulsory to email Dr Roeland Paardekooper ahead of time r.p.paardekooper@exarc.net to join.
