On the weekend 20.-21. August will be boiled, braised, fried and baked in Sundkøbing.

There are recipes preserved from the Middle Ages. These recipes testify to the use of many spices, delicious ingredients and long processes. Minced meat was made by scraping pieces of meat from large cuts, then finely chopped by hand - this is a long process and dishes with minced meat were therefore very fine.

Spices cost huge sums of money and had to be imported from far away. Only the richest could afford cinnamon, saffron and cardamom - but oh, it smells lovely.

There will be an opportunity to find out what all the many expensively imported spices were used for, what was eaten in the finer households and by the ordinary craftsman.

Sundkøbing will smell of delicious dishes. Come by and dispel some myths about medieval food!

Remember that Gæstgiveriet Den Gyldne Svane is open, and tables can be reserved for the restaurant in advance here .
