September 2024: Digitalisation - Call for Papers

Second Call for Papers

EXARC and Museum Batavialand (NL) are pleased to announce the second Call for Papers for the Conference Digitalisation in Open-Air Museums and Reconstructions, which will be held in Lelystad, the Netherlands, 11-13 September 2024. Please send your abstract to info@exarc.net before Midnight (Dutch time) on 15 May 2024.

This conference is open to all people with a museum or technical background who are interested in digital tools in the cultural sector. Our focus is on museums and other parties working with reconstructions (for example replica ships or other constructions that are not permanently tied to a museum). These parties need digital solutions, partly to serve their visitors, but also to help their staff in managing collections, and to streamline working methods and comply with current regulations (for example on digital archives of administration).

About the Conference

We expect the conference to be partly hybrid, but we would prefer for those presenting to be present in person where possible. We are currently looking for sponsors who would be willing to donate towards the costs of arranging the online aspect of the conference. The more sponsors we have, the more hours we can also be online, and therefore open access.

Presentations should be either clips (5 minutes) or papers (15 minutes) and should be in English only. These can be in the format of a film, interview, a slideshow, an elevator pitch, or a combination.

We will likely ask every approved presenter to send in a 5- or 15-minute video in advance of the conference, which we can share online (please send us this video well in time, because post-processing (including subtitling) takes about 10 hours per video). However, we will also expect the presenter to also give a live presentation on the spot, if possible.

Abstracts must be in MS Word, .txt or .rtf format (not in PDF), in English, and mentioning if you prefer to give a clip or a paper. The maximum word count is 300, including title, author name(s) and affiliation where needed. Please do not include images or literature references.

In order to keep the costs of this conference low and accessibility high, all presenters will need to register and pay the appropriate fees. We will be publishing the Proceedings in the EXARC Journal, such as for example https://exarc.net/journal/proceedings-EAC11

We look forward to receiving your contributions!
