Sunday April 28 is the European Day of Megalithic Culture organized by our partner network  Megalithic Routes.  On this day, people throughout Europe reflect on Megalithic structures such as Stonehenge, Carnac, menhirs and dolmens. Just like dolmens, these are megalithic monuments. They all have their own story, which we pay extra attention to on this day with a varying program that offers you as a visitor more insights into the history of these stone buildings.

Take a walk with a guide

Guide Gerrit Eggink takes you on a walk past various large boulders in Borger. He will explain how the boulders ended up in Drenthe, why they are so important and what our ancestors did with these stones. During the school holidays you can walk with Gerrit (see the dates at the bottom of this page). Participation in this activity is free.

Please register in advance for this activity via:  communicatie@hunebedcentrum.nl
(There are a limited number of places available)

The activity is intended for adults and children over 8 years old. You can report on the day itself at the entrance of the museum at  1:00 PM.

The walk usually takes 1.5 hours.

Excursion along the dolmens of Bronneger

The landscape of Drenthe is littered with archaeological monuments, such as dolmens and burial mounds. They all left their marks. Close to the Dolmen Center you will find D27, the largest Dolmen in the Netherlands... but a stone's throw from the museum you can view more dolmens.

During this excursion you will go on a discovery tour of the dolmens of Bronneger, and you will learn about the people who built these megalithic (stone) monuments, the Funnel Beaker culture. They were a people who left their mark not only in the Netherlands but widely throughout Europe.
