My primary research interests are combustion features, pyrotechnology, and the use of fire among hunter-gatherers. I am currently a Claude Leon Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, where I work on fire-related behaviour, human culinary technology and site formation processes at the Middle Stone Age site Klasies River, South Africa. Experimental archaeology is an important component of my research. I use fire experiments to examine, for example, the formation of combustion features, how different activities can affect the fire and the combustion feature, fire-cracked rocks, and the burning properties of plants. I am very interested in hearing from others working on similar issues. You can find more of my work and my contact information at Researchgate.
