Since 2022 I started as Archeo-tolk (archaeao-interpreter) to make children, teachers and families enthousiastic for life in the Stone Age. This is done through hands-on workshops and showing (hand-made) replicas of artefacts.
This year, the Open Monuments Weekend is entirely devoted to the Caesar festivities. The festivals that are only organized once every 25 years, in Velzeke! They go back to the origins of Belgium. Historical figures were - literally and figuratively - placed on a pedestal. In 1873 Velzeke unpacks with a suit of armor in honor of Julius Caesar.
Celebrate at our annual high mass and meet craftsmen and warriors from a distant past. Browse our lively craft market, watch warrior demonstrations or take part in their 'chainmail challenge'. You can relax with a glass of local beer or mead. Grime is provided for the little ones.
The five-day workshop gives an overview of the current methods in functional analysis of stone tools and provides the participants with an elementary understanding of how signs of use are detected on lithic artefacts. The program combines guided practical work in the lab with presentations given by members of the TraceoLab research team on key aspects of the present-day methodology.
