The prehistoric houses as reconstructed in Archeon have small or no windows. Most light enters through the door and the smoke holes under the roof. Besides this, the open fire gives some light. Honestly, we do not know whether prehistoric houses had lots or few windows because in general, we only recover house plans as colourings in the soil where the wooden posts have stood. These do not give any clues as to if and where windows were added. We think it is not very logical to have large holes in the walls because this would make the house very cold.
Waarom is het zo donker in de prehistorische huizen (NL)?
De prehistorische huizen die in Archeon zijn gereconstrueerd hebben geen of weinig ramen. Het meeste licht komt binnen door de deur en de rookluiken. Ook het haardvuur levert wat licht. Eigenlijk weten we niet of prehistorische huizen veel of weinig ramen hadden, want doorgaans worden alleen de plattegronden ervan teruggevonden in de vorm van de verkleuringen in de grond waar de houten palen hebben gestaan. Daaraan is niet te zien of en waar er ramen zaten. We denken echter dat het niet zo logisch is om grote openingen in de muren te maken, omdat het daardoor erg koud zou worden in huis.
