The 50th anniversary of „Lions Club Willisau“ in the municipality of Wauwil, near Luzern needed to be marked with a landmark celebration and an interesting and useful project. The village Wauwil counts about 1600 inhabitants. In 2002, at the Wauwiler moor, a bird watch tower was built thanks to a large investment of time and money of the Lions Club.

According to the Saga of Erik the Red it was at a site called Brattahlid (Qassiarsuk, near Narsaq) that in the year 1000 AD, the first little Christian chapel was constructed in the New World of which Greenland is a part. It took until the 1960s before it was rediscovered by archaeologists from the National Museum of Greenland and the Narsaq Museum.

When in the 1980s the A44 near Düsseldorf was extended, traces of an Iron Age settlement of about 500 BC were found by archaeologist Dr. Ralf Lommerzheim. October 2000, just a few hundred metres away from the original site, the reconstruction of the settlement was officially started by Wolfgang Diedrich, mayor of nearby Ratingen and protector of the project.
