The site Schwarzenbach-Burg in der Buckligen Welt is known between archaeologists since the 1920s. The excavations after 1992, coordinated by Wolfgang Neubauer, are a focal point for VIAS, the Vienna Institute of Archaeological Science. Here at Schwarzenbach an oppidum or Celtic reinforced settlement was built.

In the early 1970s, at the mountain Kulm in the Steiermark, traces of Celtic habitation were found which were excavated in 1977 and 1987. The association “Gesellschaft für Vor- und Frühgeschichte Kulm” was founded by teachers fond of local cultural heritage, in order to protect the archaeological remains and communicate about them.

The Schmidatal in Niederösterreich, not far from Vienna, is known for its wines and has a rich history. During excavations not far from Grosswetzdorf a Neolithic monument was discovered. It exists of a combination of circles of large piles and deep ditches. It might have been an (astronomical?) monument, possibly linked to burial rituals.

In the Straßer Valley (Straßertal), known from its wines, 11 municipalities cooperate regarding their cultural management. This is called “Kulturpark Kamptal”. One of their initiatives, 2001, was to set up a small Iron Age archaeological open-air museum. It gives us an insight in the living conditions of the time of 200 – 400 after Christ.
