I make insular manuscripts and their material components including parchment and pigments under period conditions. Recently I have built and exhibited a reconstruction of an insular scriptorium for Groam House Museum and been a consultant on the University College Cork project, 'inks and skins' researching the material components of irish manuscripts. I am currently working on bringing back to life the parchment making technique discovered through excavation at the Tarbat monastic site in Portmahomack. I am also working out the geometric construction techniques of the Pictish cross slabs of the North East of Scotland and using this as a starting point to create a new 'Book of Kells' for the North East.
