Experience heat and iron as the forges of fire at The Irish National Heritage Park are fired up for the inaugural Steel Bangers Festival on September 14th and 15th. Our resident Blacksmith will bring his crew of metal workers and steel artists to the Medieval Lodge in the heart of the Park and they will stoke the forges and tell the story of iron and steel and the pivotal role it played in the evolution of our settlement on these shores. The Blacksmith played a key role in village and urban life, they made and repaired everyday items from buckets to knives and agricultural tools. In times of warfare, the Blacksmith was the one who prepared weapons and shields that the fate of the village depended on. Come and see how the Blacksmiths work and discover the secrets of the anvil and hammer as they ring out under the shelter of the Medieval Lodge. On Saturday, there will be a bronzesmith demonstrating how bronze is worked and shaped. On Sunday, a traditional tinsmith will be showing the delicate and fine skill of working tin by hand and hammer.
Normal admission rates apply.
