I have been a member of the Society of Primitive Technology for many years. I have a BA in Anthropology and have worked for the USFS as an Archaeology Tech. for three years. I have been active in researching, creating and experimenting with traditional skills for 52 years.
I am an early technology specialist, conservation carpenter and master thatcher using researched techniques and materials for experimental archaeology purposes.

The point of my interest is Northeast Greenlandic archaeology: Independence, Saqqaq (a settlement in Western Greenland), Dorset culture (a Paleo-Inuit culture, lasting from 500 BC to between 1000 and 1500 AD).
I am a professional hairdresser and experimental archaeologist specializing in the recreation of ancient Roman, Greek and other archaic hairstyles. I use period appropriate tools and techniques and live models.
From 2003 Wiel is medieval surgeon in Archeological Open-Air Museum Archeon, he published two medieval medical reconstructions for the EXARC Journal.
I started doing indoor climate experiments in a reconstructed Viking Age house (Hedeby / Haithabu) in February 2009 (four weeks), and did another longer one from October – November 2011 (five weeks) and February – April 2012 (ten weeks).
I have worked with EXARC since 2010 and currently manage the EXARC Experimental Archaeology Collection. I have a PhD in archaeology from the University of Exeter and was a CLIR/DLF Fellow in Data Curation for the Sciences and Social Sciences at Arizona State University from 2013 to 2015.
My interest is the craft and technology of making malt and beer brewing over the ages. Wine is fermented from grapes. Mead is fermented from honey. Both grapes and honey contain natural sugars.
