EXARC Meetings

With 120 participants from 24 countries, we had a great time at the 10th international Conference on Experimental Archaeology #EAC10. This was the first time this conference was on the continent, in Leiden, the Netherlands, to be precise.

The AGM takes place on Friday 21 April, starting at 17:00h in the van Steenisbuilding, Faculty of Archaeology, University Leiden (NL). All EXARC members are cordially invited. Besides the usual points like discussion of the past year, agreeing on the report and showing our ideas for 2017, there are two points of special attention...

18 & 19 November, a colourful crowd attended the Reconstructive and Experimental Archaeology Conference (REARC). Venue was the world famous living history museum Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia. In total, about 90 people participated, of which about 40 students. People travelled from West Coast to East Coast to join, and also several EXARC members from Europe were present.

About 25 members convened in Leiden, the Netherlands for a two-day meeting revolving around a discussion on EXARCs future. On 11 March our host was the Faculty of Archaeology, University of Leiden in the person of Prof. van Gijn. She showed us around through the different state of the art laboratories following on which Prof Schindler gave a presentation on how his team transformed a National Geographic reality show into a unique teaching and learning opportunity...

EXARC and Urgeschichtemuseum MAMUZ Schloss Asparn/Zaya joined their forces to organize an international conference from the 25th to 27th of September 2015, held in Mistelbach, near Vienna focused on Archaeological Reconstructions and Tourism.

Late May, OpenArch organized a three-day conference on managing archaeological open-air museums. All 11 OpenArch members are EXARC members, and besides these them, we could also welcome several EXARC members for the conference and another dozen for the Crafts Festival which was part of the conference...

Together with UCD & INHP we enjoyed a wonderful conference in Dublin 15-18 January 2015. Over 200 delegates from almost 30 countries and a variety of backgrounds joined for three days of lectures, workshops and excursions revolving around experimental archaeology. Of course we also spent one day at an archaeological open-air museum, the Irish National Heritage Park.

Our week in Spain was wonderful! We started with a roundtable for universities working with experimental archaeology. Then continued to Burgos where the 4th International Experimental Archaeology Conference took place. At the very end we had the EXARC AGM...
