RETOLD: Vlogging webinar

On May 21 and May 28 the RETOLD webinar “Vlogging in Open-Air Museums” took place online. In the original plan we were hoping to have it live during the conferences, however due to Covid restrictions and difficulties with travels abroad, as well as high need to have it done rather sooner than later - it was decided to go online. The workshop was organized by Museumsdorf Düppel (DE).

In the words of one of the participants: "I recently took part in a 2 day webinar training session on Vlogging- video logging, which was offered to the different partners collaborating on the RETOLD project. Although I was a complete novice, I gained a wealth of practical information Vlogs in Part 1, such as Vlog styles, user personas and audience content, storyboarding and ...

RETOLD Visibility

From the beginning of the year 2021, EXARC has been working on creating a clear style for the RETOLD project: the products and communication. So far we have a logo, approved by all partners, and basic styles to use on Social Media (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter). These are media EXARC is very present on and will share progress with. First we are going to present our partners and the project itself, later more products will be designed. You will see that our collaboration exists out of museums (archaeological and open-air), a University, a Digital Media Studio and EXARC itself...

The ASTRA Open-Air Museum situated in the natural reservation of Dumbrava Sibiului, 4 kilometers away from the Sibiu city centre, spreads across 96 ha, of which more than 40 ha are covered by the permanent exhibition. It was opened in 1963 when the assumed mission was to present the traditional technical patrimony in rural Romania, mills for grinding, oil, grapes and fruit presses, sawmills and watermills, and some peasant industries.

After the 90's, the museum goes through an obvious transformation, the aspect of traditional culture being more present through the houses rebuilt in the museum, but also with emphasis on the immaterial patrimony. ASTRA Open-Air Museum currently holds over 400 monuments of folk architecture and technique, as well as an impressive collection of ethnographic heritage objects. Conceived as a living museum, it hosts many traditional events such as: traditional fairs, workshops, folk festivals and performances.

Kicking-off RETOLD

Early December, we silently started with the EU Project RETOLD. This is all about open-air museums and the documentation, digitization and sharing of their stories. The start of the project is mainly about ensuring all partners agree with what we promised Brussels, checking what changed since a year ago and where challenges may arise in the start of the 4-year project. We planned several digital meetings with each partner and one general one. Also discussing the next few months and timeline.

Project countries are Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland, Spain and Romania. EXARC is the project leader...

EXARC Lead Partner in EU project RETOLD

Brussels deemed us worthy: the RETOLD Project gets green light!

EXARC leads the way in this documentation and digitising endeavour for open-air museums. In four years, with six partners and a budget of over 300,000 EUR we will develop methods of multimodal documentation which will be brought to the public by means of immersive digital storytelling. We will be happy to start by the end of 2020.

The RETOLD project will ensure that open-air museums can continue telling important cultural heritage stories to a diverse public by developing a standardized workflow to collect, digitize, and publish data on buildings, crafts, and traditions...

We do it again – EXARC sends in EU Project Application

On November 26, EXARC sent in a project application to Brussels. The idea is to develop a documentation and digitization strategy for open-air museums, to the benefit of the museums themselves and their visitors. The project goes by the name “Retold Stories - Sustaining Cultural Memories in Open-Air Museums”. EXARC and Stadtmuseum Berlin organise a conference by the same theme in Berlin in March 2020.

The Creative Europe Project RETOLD has six partners: EXARC (lead partner), Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (ES), Complexul National Muzeal ASTRA (RO), AÖZA gGMBH (DE), Nüwa Digital Media Content Production Studios Limited (IE) and Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin (DE). The budget of the project is over 300,000 EUR...
