This spring, on Saturday 30 & Sunday 31 March, the OER weekend is at the Hunebedcentrum. Then the Prehistoric Park will be packed with prehistoric people. The dolmen builders and their descendants imitate life in prehistoric times.
Vlaardingen, not far from Rotterdam hosts a large nature reserve, called Broekpolder. Its size is 400 hectares (almost 1,000 acres), a quarter of the surface of Vlaardingen Municipality. It is an area for walking, mountain biking, et cetera. Masamuda aims to offer children and other people with an interest in the regional archaeology a real-live insight into past settlements in the Dutch delta.
2006, a civil initiative started to prevent the Broekpolder from being overbuilt with new houses. Citizens and the local municipality now cooperate in developing this area. One part of Broekpolder is an archaeological education zone, Masamuda. Vlaardingen has an archaeological past going back very long. Masamuda is meant to reconstruct dwellings from all periods, Stone Age until more recent times. The first house was built in summer 2016, a so called Vlaardingen Culture House.
With the death of the Dutch count William IV in 1345, the Hoekse and Kabeljauwse quarrels began in Holland, which lasted until well into the fifteenth century. The conflict began as a battle for the highest power in the county. This had not been clearly arranged after the death of William IV.
Dozens of Roman legionnaires, members of the British-Dutch group Legio Secvnda Avgvsta, come to Archeon and make their camp. They are joined by artisans, women, slaves and children. During the festival many additional demonstrations and activities are programmed.
I'm an archaeologist and game developer, and founded Immersive Heritage to create games and visualizations that can bring heritage research and results to a diverse audience.
