I am a prehistoric archaeologist and I have always been interested in experimental archeology and historical re-enactment. I studied Archaeology first at the University of Modena and then at the University of Bologna where I graduated with Prof.
I am a PhD Candidate in Prehistoric Archaeology and Osteoarchaeology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.
I am currently doing my PhD research on flint artefacts from the transitional period of Mesolithic to Neolithic in Belgium by use-wear analysis. For this research, I perform a lot of experiments using flint tools for 'Mesolithic activities', like plant or hide processing.
I started working in the experimental field while still studying at the university. Mostly I do reconstructions of iron objects and medieval shoes. These days I run the forge of the archaeological open-air museum "Bajuwarenhof Kirchheim", where I also present other crafts to the public.
Jaap Hogendoorn, Springlevend Verleden (Alive and kicking past)
Organiser, producer, storyteller, craftsman, builder, fighter.
My historical interpretation activities give people space and time to step outside their everyday lives and experience serious learning in a fun and informal atmosphere. I work professionally with Museums, Schools and with volunteer re-enactment groups.
I’m an archaeologist with a passion for sustainability, fire, and science communication. I have conducted fire experiments to understand combustion features, pyrotechnology, heat-induced changes, and fire use among hunter-gatherers.
